Getting Started
To set a certain page as the homepage in WordPress, you must be an admin of the website. If you’re not an admin, you’ll need to get the necessary permissions or ask an admin to carry out the steps for you.
Step 1: Navigate to Your Homepage Settings
Open your WordPress dashboard.
We’re looking for the Settings option on the left-hand side menu. Mouse over it and a sub-menu will appear. Click on Reading.
The Reading Settings options will include:
– Your homepage displays
– Search engine visibility
At this point, remember that an array of options is the key feature of WordPress. Your goal here is to choose what your front page, or homepage, displays.
Step 2: Adjust Your Homepage Settings
Under the Your Homepage Displays section, you’ll see two options:
– Your latest posts
– A static page
By default, WordPress sets your homepage to display your latest posts. To set a static page as your homepage, select the second option.
There will now be two drop-down menus – one labelled Front Page and another labelled Posts Page.
Front Page is equivalent to the homepage, and Posts Page is where your posts will be displayed.
Step 3: Select Your Desired Homepage
In the Front Page drop-down menu, select the page you want to set as your homepage. If you haven’t created the page yet, don’t worry – WordPress allows you to easily create a new page from this menu.
After you’ve chosen your desired homepage, remember to click on Save Changes at the bottom of the page.
Step 4: Confirm Your Changes
You’ve now set your desired page as the homepage! To confirm that your changes have been saved correctly, simply visit your website and ensure that the correct page is displaying as the homepage.
Wrap Up
Voila! You’ve mastered how to set up a static page as your homepage in WordPress.
Remember, the strength of WordPress is in its flexibility and ease of customization. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the settings to create the perfect website.
